Gordon B. Gear, B.A., J.D.

Principal Lawyer / Owner

Born and raised in Cape Breton, Gordon is proud to be the owner and principal lawyer of the Crosby Law Group.

Gordon obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Thomas University, with a double major in Psychology and Religious Studies. This allowed Gordon to develop strong research and critical thinking skills. Gordon then obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from the Schulich School of Law, at Dalhousie University. While completing his law degree, Gordon participated in several trial advocacy courses, spent a semester with the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic, volunteered with the Dalhousie Student Advocacy Society, and served as the Chair and Vice President Executive of the Dalhousie Law Students’ Society.  

Following law school, Gordon articled with a large regional firm in New Brunswick, where he had the opportunity to spend time working with the local Immigration and Refugee Clinic. During this time, Gordon also had the opportunity to work with a boutique family law firm, which focused on mediation and collaborative family law practice. Upon the completion of his articles, Gordon was called to the New Brunswick Bar in the New Brunswick Court of Appeal. 

In the Fall of 2018, Gordon returned home to Cape Breton, and he was subsequently called to the Nova Scotia Bar in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. Gordon has also completed the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society Land Registration Assessment, and he is a qualified lawyer licensed to practice property and real estate law. 

Gordon enjoys having the opportunity to connect with his clients, which helps him skillfully guide them through difficult decisions and complex legal issues. When he is not in the office, Gordon enjoys spending his time volunteering as way to give back to his community.

John Stephenson, B.A. (Hons.), M.P.A., J.D.

Associate Lawyer

Born and raised in New Waterford, on beautiful Cape Breton Island, John is an Associate Lawyer with Crosby Law Group. 

John first completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. After some time performing, John returned to school at Dalhousie University in Halifax, completing a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Science, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, and a Juris Doctor Degree from the Schulich School of Law. 

During that time, John had the opportunity to gain experience working in government policy, including at both the Nova Scotia Department of Finance and Nova Scotia Department of Intergovernmental Affairs, as well as volunteering to help underserved communities access quality legal information. 

Following law school, John returned home to Cape Breton in 2021 to complete his Articles with Crosby Law Group. Having been called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2022, John is excited to serve the Cape Breton community, and to use his skill and experience to benefit his clients.

Claire Doucher, B.A. (Hons.), J.D.

Associate Lawyer

Claire was born and raised in Aurora, Ontario. She completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) inPsychology from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario. While obtaining this degree, Claire took advantage of the University’s exchange program and spent one year studying abroad inHong Kong.


‍Claire then obtained her Juris Doctor Degree from the Schulich School of Law, at DalhousieUniversity. While at Dalhousie University, Claire volunteered in various programs, including assisting disadvantaged members of the community fill out legal forms, presenting legal information to middle school and high school students and co-ordinating a mentorship program between members of the legal community and students at the law school.


‍Following law school, Claire articled with the Crown Attorney’s Office in St. Catharines, Ontario, where she had the opportunity to assist with the prosecution of various offences in the OntarioCourt of Justice and the Ontario Superior Court. Upon the completion of her articles, Claire was called to the Ontario Bar in the Ontario Court of Appeal.


‍In the Summer of 2022, Claire moved to Glace Bay, and she was subsequently called to theNova Scotia Bar in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. Claire is looking forward to serving theCape Breton community!
